How To Set Up Custom Domain for Blogger With Godaddy

Custom domain for a blog is too necessary if you are a serious Blogger. The custom domain attracts visitors, as it denotes that you are a devoted Blogger. Choose your custom domain as soon as possible. Because if you have been blogging with your blogspot.com domain for a long time, you may have built some reputation, Google Pagerank, Alexa Rank, which will fall down after switching to custom domain. And in order to come back to the previous state it will take some time. That is why, you should launch your custom domain as soon as possible.
In this tutorial I am going to show you how to set up custom domain for blogger with Godaddy.

 

Step 1: Get Settings instruction from Blogger Blog
  • Go to Blogger Dashboard > Settings > Basic > Publishing
  • Click on ‘Add Custom Domain
  • In the box provided for Advance Settings type your custom domain, say ‘www.YOURDOMAIN.com’
  • Click on ‘Settings Instruction‘ just below that box
  • You will be asked to remain or leave that page. So, just click ‘Leave this page
  • Now you will have too options here, ‘On top level domain‘ and ‘On a subdomain‘ respectively
  • Click on ‘On top level domain
  • Here you will get 2 CNAME & 4 A-records, which you have to update on your Godaddy DNS zone file.

Step 2: How to edit Godaddy Domain DNS Zone File
  • Log in to your Godaddy account
  • Go to My Account > Domains
  • Here you will see you domain name listed. Click ‘Launch
  • You will be redirected to Domain Details Page
  • Click on ‘DNS Zone File’ > Click ‘Edit
  • **Be careful while editing this
  • Here you will see CNAME & A-records lists
  • Just below the CNAME records there will be a button named ‘Quick Edit‘. Click on that & enter your first CNAME with Host Name(www) & Points To(ghs.google.com) as per the values got by Step 1. Similarly add the second CNAME.
  • Similarly add A-records as per the values got by step 1 by Quick Editing method. Here host will be ‘@‘ for all three & Points to will be those 4 IP addresses.
  • Delete the default A-record provided with your domain.
  • Save the DNS Zone File.
  • Your records will be updated within a short time or you have to wait 48 hours.

Step 3: Final Setup on Blogger Blog
  • Again go to Blogger Dashboard > Settings > Basic > Publishing
  • Click on ‘Add Custom Domain
  • In the box provided for Advance Settings type your custom domain.
  • Save
  • You are done & your custom domain will be live as soon as the DNS Zone File records are updated.
